About Zachary V. Harkenrider
Zachary V. “Zach” Harkenrider assumed charge as the U.S. Consul General in Lahore on May 18, 2014. He is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service with over a decade of experience working in developing and post-conflict countries.
Since July 2013, Mr. Harkenrider served as Deputy Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, where his work focused on the U.S.-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue, Afghanistan policy,and regional peace and stability. His previous assignments include the Office of the U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan and two assignments in Afghanistan, in U.S. Embassy Kabul’s Political-Military Affairs office and as the State Department representative on the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Ghazni Province. He also served as Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Niamey, Niger, and Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata, India.
Mr. Harkenrider is a native of upstate New York’s Capital District, a graduate of the University of Rochester, and enjoys hiking, biking, and collecting art and rare books. He is fluent in French and Dari and his wife Yukari is a former UN official, originally from Tokyo, Japan.
