Passport Information

Applications for new and replacement U.S. passports are accepted in the Consulate by appointment only. Lost passport applications must be accompanied by a police report with English translation. To allow for processing time, please visit the consular section well in advance of travel plans.

Passport Application Instructions

Passport applications are being forwarded to the National Passport Center in New Hampshire for processing. Applicants are required to be physically present when submitting their application. We are open Monday through Friday. We are closed on both Pakistani and American holidays. Please call American Citizen Services between 2:00 pm thru 4:00 pm to set up an appointment.

Please allow two weeks for processing.

Child Support Owed

A passport, except for direct return to the United States, will not be issued in any case in which the applicant has been certified by the Secretary of Health and Human Services as notified by a state agency under 42 U.S.C. 652(k) to be in arrears of child support in an amount exceeding $5,000.00.

Your passport will be revoked if you fall under this regulation, including when you apply for additional pages, seek a renewal or process a Report of Birth application.

Documentary Requirements (except for those applying in conjunction with an application for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad)

1. Proof of Citizenship (Please bring one of the following original documents):

  • Previously issued U.S. passport;
  • U.S. birth certificate (original or copy certified by an official government custodian of birth records);
  • Certificate of Naturalization;
  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad

2. Proof of Identity (Please bring one or more of the following original documents):

  • Previously issued U.S. passport;
  • Certificate of Naturalization;
  • A formal identity document issued by a competent authority of the municipality, state, or country in which the applicant resides (e.g. driver's license)

3. Photographs:

  • Two identical photographs are required. They must be recent, 2 x 2 inches (with the size of the head between 1 and 1 3/8 inches), color or black and white. The photos must be clear, front view, full face, and in focus. The background must be plain white or off-white. Please print the applicant's first and last names on the backs of both photos.

PROCEDURE

  • Complete a passport application form (DS-11 or DS-82) in black ink only, legibly and completely. You may use passport application form DS-82 only if you have been issued a U.S. passport in your name within the past 15 years; you are able to submit your most recent U.S. passport at the time of application; and you were at least 16 years of age when your most recent passport was issued. If the passport you are applying for is a replacement for a lost, stolen or mutilated passport you must use form DS-11.
  • Submit the application and required supporting documents to the American Citizen Services Office at the U.S. Consulate, Lahore, Monday through Friday except Pakistani & American Holidays. All applicants are required to appear in person to submit passport applications. You must sign your application before a Consular Officer.
  • Pay the required fees: $82 for a minor (under 16) application, $67 for an adult renewal, or $97 for an adult first-time issuance or replacement passport. All fees must be paid in cash at the cashier's window in U.S. dollars or Pakistani Rupee equivalent.
  • Allow two weeks for processing; however, complicated cases may take longer.

Additional Requirements for Applicants whose Passports have been lost or stolen:

  • Applicants must present the original Pakistani police report concerning the circumstances of the loss or theft; and
  • Applicants must complete an Affidavit of Loss or Theft (available at the ACS Office).

Note on Emergency Travel: as mentioned above, replacement passports generally take two weeks to process. In cases of emergency travel, where waiting two weeks for the passport will cause undue hardship, the Consular Section in Islamabad is authorized to print a limited validity passport that cannot be extended.
